Chrome Extension for people adversely affected by GIFs

Lifehacker recommended a Google Chrome extension that “pauses” gifs.  So, all the gifs on your dash turn into still pics until you click on them.  A bit of warning:  if you un-pause, you can’t re-pause, unless you refresh.  Otherwise, it seems to be working really well!

I just installed it and it works exactly like she said.

You can’t re-pause, but it does stop them until you click.

THIS IS A GORGEOUS THING.

Have not checked this myself, but reblogging in case it’s useful to any of my followers.

Techthusiasm with unfortunate results

Yesterday I had a sudden burst of interest in technowhatsits.  I got Greasemonkey on my Firefox and then got a whole bunch of those userscripts that a couple of people reblogged a week or two ago, like the one that wraps tags on the dashboard, the one that lets you bookmark posts on the dashboard, the one that links from a post on its own page to the post on the dashboard so you can reply to it, and so on.  (I can’t immediately lay my hands on the links but if you’re interested and haven’t already seen these just ask and I’ll have a look.)

Then I remembered that a friend recommended Iron, which is a free browser based on Google Chrome but with the code adjusted to remove all the bits that automatically tell Google every single thing you ever do on the internet (which apparently Chrome does).  So I downloaded that and tried it and it was wooooooooooooo so much faster.

But of course there are no nifty Tumblr userscripts for Iron.  So basically I’ve made two exciting technological discoveries and immediately been forced to choose between them.  UNFAIR.  [Sulks.]

I suppose it’s conceivable that the Chrome versions of the userscripts would work on Iron.  I’ll try that tomorrow maybe.
